Synopsis

After Tom Keene receives a letter from his friend Lankey inviting him to join him for some adventures, Tom defies Captain Felipe Rodriguez and crosses the Mexican border headed for the Thornton ranch, where Lankey works. At the Thornton ranch, Jack Stone shoots Beth Thornton's father to obtain a map to his mine, so that he can steal the claim. Stone and his gang take Lankey hostage. Grainger, a family friend, arrives to help, but he is too late to save Thornton and can only comfort Beth, whom he takes to his house for safety. Believing that Grainger intends to harm Beth, Tom ties up Pedro, one of Grainger's men, and confronts Grainger. Touched by Tom's protective intentions, but mystified as to his identity, Beth informs him of his mistake. After hearing that Lankey has been kidnapped, Tom leaves to rescue him. Lankey has freed himself, however, and the two friends meet and plan to outwit Stone by having Tom impersonate a lawyer whom Stone is expecting. The plan works until the real lawyer arrives, whereupon Tom steals Stone's half of the map and rides back to Grainger. Grainger has brought Captain Rodriguez to help, and neither of them trust Tom, but they are all held up by Stone, who takes Beth hostage. Lankey stops Stone, and Bob fights with him, while the marshal arrives and stops Stone's men from raiding Grainger's ranch. Bob bests Stone and returns the second half of the map to Beth.
