Synopsis
The musical revue "Stars of Tomorrow" opens to an empty house until James P. Tuttle is tricked into attending the show by automobile mechanic Joey Bryant, the younger brother of the show's star, Julie Bryant. Joey mistakenly believes that James is a millionaire, when, in reality, he is a soon-to-be unemployed car salesman. The penniless James still agrees to back the show, and asks his tycoon twin brother, John P. Tuttle, to give him the money. John refuses and orders his brother to return to their hometown in Illinois, after the local Czechoslovakian folk festival is over. Thinking that his brother is going to be in Washington, D.C. at that time, James decides to impersonate his brother and takes the show to Illinois to appear in the festival. Charlie Young, the show's producer, then convinces theatrical agent Mike Hamilton to advance the show's travel expenses if he agrees to take Mike's trouble-making client Peggy with him. While the troupe heads to Illinois in James's mobile home, Mike learns how rich John is and heads for Illinois himself with his top client, band leader Freddie Jordan. James's plan is scuttled, however, when his brother arrives at the festival, which leads to a series of mistaken identities. James finally tells Mike the truth about his identity and personal finances, but the agent, arguing that he has a blank contract signed by "J. P. Tuttle," states that he still intends to sue the shipping and steel tycoon if Freddie and his band do not perform at the festival. In a desperate attempt to convince his brother to finance the revue, James dresses up as John's long-lost love, but John discovers his brother's plot. He nevertheless agrees to allow the struggling musical revue to perform at the festival. After the performance, John is so impressed that he agrees to hire the revue as entertainment for his factory workers.
