Synopsis
Sergeant Renfrew of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, accompanied by reluctant Constable Kelly, takes to the air to prove that a recent rash of airplane crashes are connected to the activities of a gold smuggling ring. In his investigation, Renfrew visits the Yukon Gold Mining Company, where his old friend, Buzz Murphy, is about to take off with a shipment of gold. Unknown to Renfrew or the pilot, local radio announcer Uncle Dimwitty has bugged the gold office and is broadcasting information of the gold shipments in the form of children's stories. Listening to Uncle's stories are Morgan and his gang of smugglers, who are using a radio beam developed by Professor Lewis to disable the plane's engines, thus causing them to crash. Renfrew's suspicions are confirmed as he watches Buzz's plane burst into flames and crash, and the sergeant resumes his investigation on the ground, where a short-circuited magneto head leads him to Morgan's hunting lodge. Meanwhile, the professor's daughter Madeleine arrives to join her father, who believes that he is working on a defense weapon for the government. When he learns the nefarious use of his weapon, the professor objects, but Morgan ensures his silence by threatening him with jail. Soon after, Renfrew knocks on Morgan's door, and sees one of Morgan's men wearing Buzz's ring. Returning later that night to investigate, Renfrew finds the deadly beam before he is discovered by Morgan's men and is forced to flee. When he returns to the lodge with Kelly and Inspector Warner, the lab has been dismantled, and his fellow officers begin to doubt Renfrew's sanity. Desperate to catch the hijackers, Renfrew volunteers to fly the next gold shipment, and Madeleine stows away on board his plane to warn him of danger. As Morgan decoys Renfrew's plane toward the deadly beam, the professor turns the weapon on the smugglers' plane, sending Morgan crashing to his death. Kelly then rides to Morgan's hideout and, with the professor's help, arrests the gang.
