Synopsis
After Bob Crandall receives a letter from his friend, Larry Moore, announcing his discovery of a rich silver mine, Bob heads West to visit him. On the way, he helps prevent a stagecoach robbery, although the female bandit evades capture. Bob tries to locate Larry through Frank Sheridan, who is in a position to meet everyone who comes through town. Sheridan insists he has never heard of Larry or of the Two Friends Mine. Bob continues to ask around town for news of his friend and eventually spots a hungry dog named Rinty wearing a tag with the initials L. M. Believing that Rinty is Larry's dog, he urges the animal to lead him to his master. Sheridan's men follow Bob to the Triangle Mine and attack him, but he escapes with Rinty's help. Bob then breaks into the recorder's offices to look for Larry's claim, which he thinks has been taken over by Triangle. Sheridan summons the sheriff, but Bob hides in a room belonging to Molly Wellburn. Molly turns out to be the woman who tried to rob the stage and she explains that the Triangle people murdered her father and stole his mine. Using an assumed name, she has been working in Sheridan's office in hopes of discovering evidence that will convict him of the crime. Bob and Molly decide to question Sam Dunn, the recorder, but when they arrive at his cabin, they discover that he has been murdered. Realizing that Bob must have hidden in Molly's room, Sheridan and his henchmen search Molly's room for the missing record book and discover her real identity. Sheridan admits to Molly that he is behind the Triangle Mining Company and tells her that he plans to frame Bob for Dunn's murder. Looney, a local eccentric, stops Bob from walking into Sheridan's trap and reveals himself to be a United States Marshal working undercover. The two men arrest Sheridan and his henchmen. With everything settled and the mines returned to their rightful owners, Bob and Molly decide to consolidate their claims.
