Synopsis
Following a tough rehearsal, chorus girl Blondie Marsh refuses the entreaties of the many "stage door Johnnies" who proposition her. She goes home to her boardinghouse to celebrate with her boyfriend, songwriter Jimmy Stafford, who has just received an advance for a sold composition. The chambermaid, Marjorie Dodd, who has not been able to find a stage job since she left her home in the country, is fired for neglecting her duties when the boardinghouse mistress finds her helping Blondie hook her dress. Blondie then arranges for Marjorie to audition for the Broadway review in which she will appear, and Marjorie gets the job. She and Blondie plan to meet Jimmy and a date he is bringing for Marjorie after the show, but following the performance, Marjorie mistakes wealthy clubman Jeff Gilbert for Jimmy's acquaintance. Attracted to Marjorie, Jeff does not correct her mistake until Jimmy and Blondie arrive, but Jimmy agrees that Jeff should replace the planned date. As his romance with Marjorie grows, Jeff, who is fighting a divorce suit with his estranged wife, hesitates to tell Marjorie. After he finally agrees to his wife's high terms because of his love for Marjorie, his wife sees him at a restaurant with Marjorie, whom he now courts in earnest. Learning of the marriage, Marjorie leaves heartbroken at Jeff's deception. To forget him, Marjorie dates one of the stage door Johnnies, a dissolute rake, who takes her to a roadhouse. When Blondie, with whom Marjorie now rooms, learns of this, she calls Jeff. Followed by private detectives hired by his wife, Jeff heads for the roadhouse, which the rake and Marjorie leave after she confesses that she still loves Jeff. The rake drives recklessly, and they have an accident. When Jeff finds the wrecked car, he drives the badly injured Marjorie to her apartment and calls a doctor and Blondie. The detectives phone Jeff's wife, but when she arrives with her gigolo and a policeman, they find Blondie, Jimmy and the doctor there also. Because she has trailed him, Jeff now offers a much lower settlement to his wife, which she accepts. When Marjorie awakens, she promises to marry Jeff.

Notes
Nick Stuart and Sue Carol were married at the time of this film. Some sources conflict concerning the identity of the actor playing the songwriter; while most credit Stuart, some credit Harry Barris, who actually co-wrote the songs in the film, and others call the character role "Harry Barris" rather than "Jimmy Stafford."
