Synopsis

A lyrical portrait of Tokyo that features its residents as they contemplate urban life. This modern metropolis of 13 million people proves to be overrun by crows that pick through garbage, build intricate nests on precarious perches and traverse the sky as an ominous dark mass. These city scavengers rebuff any attempts to control them. Here, we observe the crow population through various lenses, referencing art, culture, Buddhist and Shinto spirituality as well as everyday anecdotes. In this exploration of post-bubble Tokyo, a parallel flock comes to the fore as people on the margins of society are forced to find their own uncertain perches within this rapidly changing city.
