Synopsis
Cardinal Richelieu, advisor to Louis XIII of France, instructs musketeers d'Artagnan and Porthos to infiltrate a secret society which is plotting the assassination of the king. Learning that the Duke de Montserant is the leader of the insurgents, d'Artagnan enlists the help of Diana, the duke's innocent niece, and the two fall in love; Diana's maidservant Carlotta and Porthos also begin a romance. The musketeers brand Count Savignac and Montfort, an expert swordsman, as conspirators, marking an "x" on their foreheads. Montfort dons a mask to deceive the king, but Richelieu reveals his perfidy. Following a duel between the two musketeers and Montserant, the king's enemies are defeated.
