Synopsis

Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, two imprisoned safecrackers, Joe Adams and Edward Brentano, are released to U. S. Naval Intelligence for the purpose of photographing enemy documents located in the Japanese Embassy in Lisbon. Once there, they contact Buergher, a dealer in stolen government secrets, and Sonia, a Russian woman who tells Brentano that the documents are worth $1 million. Joe and Brentano enter the embassy through the sewers and photograph the documents, but Brentano double-crosses Joe in the hope that he can make off with both the profits and Sonia. He is killed by Buergher, who is revealed to be Sonia's husband; Sonia and Buergher are then killed in a car crash. Although the documents are retrieved by the U. S. Navy, Joe is captured and taken aboard a Japanese freighter. When the ship is sunk, Joe is rescued and granted a presidential pardon.
