Synopsis
April 1945. SS-Obersturmbannführer (First Lieutenant of the SS) leads a group of twenty Jews through Austria. The destination is a concentration camp in Mauthausen. After having shot one of the prisoners purely on a whim he decides to rest at a small village. He stays in the mansion of a large estate, while the prisoners have to stay in a barn. The estate belongs to a couple: Stefan and Traudl. Traudl feels compassion for the people and brings them food, which leads to conflict with her husband, a veteran.
