Synopsis

Giles Wingate inherits $1 million but loses his money to a succession of four wives in the space of as many years. Educated by this experience, Giles opens a private girls' school in his country mansion to train young women in the arts of love and sex. He hires the Duchess of Burwash to guide his pupils in attracting and ensnaring men. Giles also engages a male instructor to test and refine the students' lovemaking abilities. The school's first 20 graduates meet with great success in their endeavors, and respectable families unsuspectingly enroll their daughters. The authorities close in on Giles, but the judge who hears his case is so impressed with the venture that he frees Giles and decides to become a partner in the school upon his retirement from the bench. [In the British release version, Giles escapes an embezzlement conviction when his lawyer, Hugh Berridge, relates to the judge a moving account of the nine wives who tricked Giles into paying alimony. Giles then opens a school with Berridge to train women in the art of fleecing men in return for 10 percent of their profits. Berridge provides the students through a probation officer friend. Giles employs the drunken Duchess of Burwash; Hector, a punch-drunk boxer, whom he places in charge of physical instruction; and Fred, the 80-year-old butler, on whom the students practice their skills. A local vigilante group brings Giles before the same judge who had earlier freed him. The judge sentences Giles and Berridge to prison, and then assumes the management of the school.]
