Synopsis

Shot with uncommon access, the film explores the tensions between individual talents and group identity, art and commerce, and innocence and wisdom during the genesis of the Punch Brothers Band. 26-year-old Chris Thile arrives at a crossroads when his platinum-selling bluegrass band, Nickel Creek, goes on "indefinite hiatus." But Thile, a perfectionist prodigy who has defied expectations since he picked up the mandolin at age five, has a plan to recruit some of the nation's best musicians and challenge the very foundations of bluegrass music. The film follows him every step of the way as he puts that plan into action.
