Synopsis
American Indians living in a squalid California desert shantytown are being victimized by greedy businessmen and terrorized by a gang of motorcyclists, led by Kisum, which arrives at Fat Jack's tavern and causes a disturbance. Kisum is impressed by the aloofness of Maria, the waitress; and her brother, Johnnie Little Hawk, steps in to protect her. Johnnie then has a run-in with Fillmore, the storekeeper, and Kisum forces him to pay the wages due Johnnie. This intercession softens Maria's attitude toward Kisum, and both groups join forces and loot Fillmore's store, whereupon Fillmore calls in the highway patrol, resulting in the arrest of several motorcyclists and Indians. After the Indians raid the cyclists' camp, prompted by Kisum's rough treatment of Marie, Kisum agrees to Fillmore's proposal to drop his charges if Kisum and his gang will do away with the Indians. Maria then makes love with Kisum, and he calls off the attack; but he decides to go ahead when one of his gang is murdered (apparently by the Indians for raping an Indian woman). While the destruction is underway, Kisum discovers it was Fillmore who raped the woman and murdered his friend. He and Maria gaze helplessly at each other as Indians (including Johnnie) and gang members alike are slaughtered.
