Synopsis

While returning to Santa Fe with a bank loan, Dad Bates is shot by bandit Tex French. Cowboy Tom Crenshaw arrives on the scene and shoots the bandit. As he dies, Bates asks Tom to collect the money for his daughter Molly. Crooked rancher Morgan has been running cowhands arriving for work at the Bates ranch out of town. His partner Stanton befriends Molly, hoping to procure her ranch through marriage. When Molly sees Tom publicly embarrass Morgan, she hires him. Not wanting to tell Molly of her father's death, Tom hides her money at the ranch, but Logan, one of Stanton's men, sees him. Consequently, Tom is arrested for Dad's murder and Stanton steals the money. Believing that Tom is really Tex, Stanton convinces the sheriff to release him for a public lynching, but then takes Tom to his hideout. There, Tom poses as a Mexican bandit and recovers Molly's money, which he secretly returns to her, while assuring her of his innocence and Stanton's guilt in her father's murder. Stanton then proposes to Molly, and she pretends to like him. The man who originally hired Tex, Steve Denton, then exposes Tom as an impostor, but he fights both Denton and Stanton and escapes. Tom then organizes a vigilante group of townspeople, who stage a gunfight at Stanton's ranch. There, Tom knocks out Stanton and Denton, and finds evidence of their part in Dad's murder. Tom then proposes to Molly.
