Synopsis

When Captain Lief Erickson finds a baby abandoned in a lifeboat on his ship, he abducts a waterfront prostitute, Singapore Sal, to care for the child; despite her outrage, Sal takes pity on the little tyke and manufactures a bottle for him out of an empty whisky bottle and the finger of a rubber glove. The mate who helped Erickson kidnap Sal becomes obsessed with her, and Erickson knocks him overboard. The baby becomes sick, and Sal and Erickson together fight for his life; his fever breaks as they reach Frisco, and Sal prepares to take the child and go ashore. She becomes suddenly ashamed of her old calling, however, and leaves the baby with Erickson, sailing from port with Captain Sunday, Erickson's arch rival; Erickson sails after them and boards Sunday's ship. He beats Sunday's crew into submission and forces Sunday to marry him to Sal, who is not unwilling.
