Synopsis
While young people in the West started to rebel against traditional authoritarian power relations in the early 1960s, in South Africa the institutionalized racism of Apartheid still existed. With the rise in popularity of punk music in the mid-1970s, for the first time there was a home-grown youth culture and an opportunity to resist oppressive regimes. Here, we follow the evolution of the multiracial punk movement in South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and observe how it played a role there in the political struggle.
