Synopsis

A look at the history of the surf industry. In the beginning, a handful of pioneers built wooden surfboards in their garages, and ended up launching a lifestyle that has found a following all over the world. Back in the 1950s and 60s, surfers were considered beach bums and renegades. It was men like Greg Noll, Bing Copeland and Hap Jacobs that took it upon themselves to make surfing a socially acceptable sport and pastime. With new materials available after World War II and the popularity of such beach movies as "Gidget" and "The Endless Summer," the design and manufacturing of surfboards changed and brought surfing to millions along Southern California shores.
