Synopsis
Richard E. Ross, editor and proprietor of the Rock River Advocate , is being harassed by outlaws who are taking over the Rock River territory. Dick publicly rails against Sheriff Luke Graham, whom he accuses of complicity with the outlaws, and vows to replace him with his friend, real estate agent Jim Dawson. Jim is also Luke's rival for the affection of Dick's daughter Grace, who is soon to return from the East. The guiltless Luke sends for his lawmen friends, who are known as the Range Busters, to clear his name. Two Range Busters, "Crash" Corrigan and "Dusty" King, immediately head for Rock River, while their partner, "Alibi" Terhune, stays behind. When a stagecoach carrying Grace is robbed and its driver wounded, Crash and Dusty scare off the attackers, and escort the coach to Rock River. Luke is relieved to see his friends, but Dick is suspicious of the two Range Busters. Crash soon finds Alibi working undercover at the newspaper as a typesetter, and learns that Jim has been spreading lies that the Range Busters are outlaws working with Luke. While Luke and Dusty follow the real outlaws' tracks, Crash narrowly avoids an ambush by Jim's cohorts. After Grace accepts Jim's marriage proposal, the Range Busters develop a plan to delay the wedding, but Grace sees through their ruse. When the stagecoach driver dies from his wounds, Dick forms a vigilante committee with Jim as leader. Crash and Luke find the outlaws' hideout, but are captured, and escape only with Alibi's help. The Range Busters then detain the judge who is to marry Grace and Jim, and Jim panics when he learns the Range Busters are free and sends his gang to their hideout to collect the loot. Luke brings official word to the Rosses that Jim is a wanted criminal who has been using an alias. Crash then follows Jim to the hideout, where the Range Busters capture the outlaws after a rousing fight, and discover that Luke had difficulty tracking the outlaws because they had placed their horses' shoes on backwards. Later, the Range Busters bid farewell to newlyweds Luke and Grace.
