Synopsis
When prizefighter Scotty McWade loses a fixed fight to Ollie Olesen, he retires and, denying his identity as a boxer, gets hired by Colonel Haydn as a ranch hand. Scotty soon masters the colonel's wild horse Bluebell, whom the colonel hopes to enter in a race, and the colonel gives the mare to him. When crooked fight promoter Lou Slater arrives at the ranch, however, Scotty recognizes him and warns the colonel's daughter Betty. Angry at Scotty for insinuating that her father's friend is crooked, Betty slaps Scotty for his insolence. Fighter Joe Gepelto, whom the colonel has hired to lose to Olesen in a fight, arrives at the ranch. Scotty, suspicious of Slater, knocks Joe out, and the colonel kicks Scotty off the ranch. Although Scotty now refuses to ride Bluebell in the race, Betty pleads with him, aware that her father has bet all he has on Bluebell. As the race is about to start and Slater holds the colonel to his bet, Scotty arrives and wins the race. Slater then has Scotty arrested for throwing a fight, while the colonel places a "double-or-nothing" bet on the Olesen-Gepelto match. When the sheriff recognizes Scotty as McWade, the only man who can beat Olesen, he releases him, and Scotty knocks out Joe in order to fight in his place. Scotty easily defeats Olesen and receives the heavyweight championship of the Pacific Coast title he earlier lost. The colonel offers to be his manager; however, Scotty says he's retiring and kisses Betty.
