Synopsis

When Marshal Buck Conners is assigned to Big Bend Country by the governor to catch a gang of rustlers led by Mort Ringer, he goes undercover as notorious outlaw "The Morning Glory Kid." Two of the rustlers, Bud and Slim, had earlier made a deal with the local sheriff to kill Morning Glory in exchange for their freedom. As he approaches Big Bend, Buck saves Jessie McCoy, the daughter of John McCoy, who owns the Star M ranch, from a bandit. Jessie then explains that the Ringer gang has killed four ranch hands and has stolen several Star M steer. After advising Jessie to remain where he rescued her, Buck goes to the Star M ranch and finds that her father has been murdered. Buck is then held up and bound by two of the ranch hands, who assume that he is Morning Glory. When one of the ranch hands goes to town to report the capture to the sheriff, Buck tricks the remaining ranch hand and escapes on Arab, his white stallion. Unable to find Jessie where he left her, Buck follows her trail to an abandoned Spanish hacienda that has been used as a slaughterhouse for stolen cattle. Next, Buck comes upon the Ringer hideout, where he meets Mort Ringer and proves that he is the real Morning Glory Kid. Finding Jessie at the hideout, Buck assures her he has an escape planned, but the next morning, two of the gang members recognize him as a marshal. With the help of Chita, Ringer's discarded girl friend, Buck fights off the gang and locks them in a room, then escapes with Jessie. The gang pursues them, however, and he and Jessie are forced to take refuge in the hacienda. After the gang sets fire to the first floor of the building, Buck ropes Ringer and, with Jessie's help, hoists him up to a window and drags him into the burning building. Meanwhile, the Star M ranch hand who had gone to fetch the sheriff discovers his mistake, and the sheriff and his posse ride to Buck's rescue. As they arrive, Ringer attacks Buck, but Jessie fires a shot to hasten the posse. After a gunfight, the posse captures the bandits, while Buck single-handedly beats Ringer. Buck then resigns as marshal in order to marry Jessie.
