Synopsis

As he rides toward the Rio Grande, Tex Lowry prevents Buck and his gang of outlaws from kidnapping Martha from the stage. After setting Martha free, Tex introduces himself to Buck as Ed Carter, the notorious outlaw, and Buck invites him to Rancho Grande to meet Lane, the ranch foreman. At the ranch, Tex learns that the owner, Sarah, is being administered a medicine to weaken her and thus keep her out of Lane's way as he loots her ranch. No outsiders are allowed on the property, known as "Hell Ranch." Believing Tex to be an outlaw, Lane welcomes him and puts him in charge of a herd of cattle that he is shipping to the border. Soon afterward, Martha arrives and announces that she is Sarah's new nurse. Before leaving for the border, Tex advises Martha to withhold Sarah's medication, and then he informs the marshal that he is really a noted lawman, and is trying to solve the mystery of Rancho Grande. While Tex is away with Buck and the cattle, the real Carter arrives and exposes Tex's ruse. When Tex returns, he finds that Sarah, now recovered, is being held prisoner, and is warned by Cookie, one of the hands, that Lane knows his identity. Before Lane can retaliate, Tex rides to town and brings the marshal back to arrest Lane and his gang. Tex then reveals his true identity, prompting Sarah to offer him a job as ranch foreman . Tex refuses her offer, however, for he must leave to serve the law.
