Synopsis
A band of outlaws chase a stage coach driven by Wally Hamilton but are ambushed by soldiers. Black Bard, the leader of the outlaws, and two of his men, Apache Joe and Skeeter Beldon, are captured. Wally works for Charles Farell, the owner of a stagecoach line, and is engaged to his daughter Ruth. Whip Roden, Farell's competitor, plans to win an upcoming race and the prize of a government contract by any means necessary. Roden manages to slip guns to the captured outlaws while the marshal's back is turned and during their subsequent escape, the marshal is killed. Wally follows the outlaws to an Indian camp, where Bard enlists the Indians' aid to attack the morning wagon train. Wally overhears Bard making plans to kidnap Ruth from the train in order to force Farell out of the race and rushes ahead to warn the wagon train. As they hold off the Indian attack, he rides to the fort for help. Before his return, however, Ruth is captured by the outlaws. When he realizes what has happened, Wally and the soldiers search for Ruth. In the meantime, Farell is warned to withdraw from the race if he wants to see Ruth alive. Wally finds Ruth where Roden is holding her, and she warns him that Roden's men are waiting to ambush him during the race. Because Farell promised not to race, he sells his company to Wally for $l.50 so that he can legally enter the competition. Wally gets to the starting line just in time. To fool the outlaws, Ruth dresses in an outfit identical to the one Wally is wearing. With Ruth's help they outwit the outlaws and win the race and the government contract.
