Synopsis
Tex Duncan is hired by Doc Aikman, who runs a traveling medicine show, to work as a singer and marksman. Just as he is hired, some masked bandits ride up and take a bag of money hidden in the wagon. Tex, a Ranger in disguise, suspects that Hank, a member of the medicine show, is involved in a series of recent robberies when he sees Hank whisper something to one of the bandits. Tex also notices that the head bandit has one finger missing. After they leave, Tex chases the bandits and sees a woman ride up and talk to them. Later, he has a fight with one of the men and discovers that he is really Jimmy, another ranger who has secretly infiltrated the gang. When Tex and Fuzzy, Doc Aikman's helper, arrive in town, Tex warns Burton, the express office manager, of a proposed robbery, then finds that the woman he saw with the robbers is Mary, a singing waitress. Though she is suspicious of him, she admits that her brother is a member of the gang of robbers, but is being forced to work with them. During a performance of the medicine show, the gang comes into the audience and Jimmy pretends to antagonize Tex into letting him help with one of the tricks. He then secretly tells Tex about the proposed robbery that night. While the stunt is being performed, Hank secretly shoots Jimmy, who apparently dies. The crowd tries to arrest Tex for murder, but Mary comes on stage and says that another shot was fired. They now learn that the express office has been robbed and Tex accuses Burton of being part of the gang. Although afraid, Burton reveals that the leader of the gang is Bull Bailey, then reveals Bailey's hideout. Tex goes to the hideout just after Bailey has planted some dynamite to blow his cabin up. After Mary's brother and the others leave, Tex bests Bailey in a fight. When Mary encounters her brother, he admits that Bailey has set the cabin to blow up. She rushes to warn Tex and he saves the robbery loot and Bailey just in time. The robbers are arrested and Doc Aikman brings in Jimmy, who was not dead after all. Finally, Tex agrees to let Mary's brother go free but sentences her to a life sentence with him as soon as they find a minister.

According to Motion Picture Herald, this was popular comedian Stan Laurel's first film as a producer. Hollywood Reporter mentions that Laurel was to produce six films under the Spectrum banner. Although there is a copyright statement in the film's opening credits, there is no mention of this film within copyright records. Modern sources add Steve Clark, Chick Hannon and Milburn Morante to the cast, and identify Ryan's character as Bull Bailey, Hackett's character as Hank, Owen's character as Al, Mathews character as Durk, Porter's character as the piano player, Cramer's character as express manager Burton, and Cactus Mack's character as Art.
