Synopsis

U. S. intelligence officer Emmett Wilson is captured by the Japanese while making a coastal survey of Leyte during World War II. Torture fails to extract the American invasion plans from him, and the Japanese begin to execute one Filipino a day, threatening to continue until Wilson talks. Another American soldier, Lieut. Robert Grimm, parachutes into the hills held by Filipino guerrillas and persuades the guerrillas to attack the Japanese and rescue Wilson. The attack fails, the executions continue, and the horrified Wilson goes to Captain Akira, the Japanese commander, to reveal the plans. A Filipino, one of an angry crowd protesting the executions, sees Wilson and Akira together and, suspecting treachery, shoots Wilson. The Japanese turn their guns on the crowd, but the guerrillas attack again before Akira can organize his men. The dying Wilson bayonets Akira, the guerrillas defeat the Japanese garrison, and, a short time later, Gen. Douglas MacArthur leads the American invasion of the islands.
