Synopsis
Ex-diver Bill Harper is an apartment house manager who lives with his wife, Dottie, and his brother Buddy. Bill, a failure in life, plans to rob a bank, and he recruits the aid of an old friend, Tucker. They are visited by Purdy, who originally gave Bill the idea for the robbery, and Bill and Tucker reluctantly include him in the robbery. While Bill and Tucker are taking their diving equipment to Catalina Island, Buddy attempts to rape Dottie. Bill returns in time to witness the violent scene. Dottie throws Buddy out and announces that she is planning to leave Bill. On the day of the robbery, Bill and Tucker swim underwater to Catalina Island while Buddy and Purdy cruise around the bay in a rented boat. Emerging from the water carrying spear guns, Bill and Tucker enter a bank and are forced to kill a man. They place the money in a waterproof bag and race to a pier. Tucker suffers a heart attack, and a police bullet pierces Bill's air tank as he dives into the water. He reaches the steamer where Buddy and Purdy are waiting, but the steamer's propellers suck him to his death. While Dottie watches from the pier, Buddy and Purdy are arrested by the police, and the money sack floats to the surface.
