Synopsis

Onoff, a celebrated novelist, is accused of a murder he may or may not have committed. While a heavy rainstorm pounds the dilapidated police station, the Inspector assigned to the case tries a variety of approaches in his dogged attempt to get his suspect to confess. Sometimes he flatters the writer with his near encyclopedic knowledge of his work; at other times he resorts to more conventional (and brutal) methods. As the interrogation presses on through the night, the writer, with his wisdom about human nature and his abundant gifts for storytelling, proves to be an elusive subject and a worthy match. Hidden behind this unfolding cats-and-mouse game between these two personalities is a deeper mystery, with a surprising outcome that has overtones of Kafka, OUTWARD BOUND and "The Twilight Zone."
