Synopsis

Jimmy, a happy young boy, decides one day to miss band practice and go with his talking flute, Freddie, to Living Island, a magical kingdom where animals, plants, and inanimate objects are able to speak. Witchiepoo, flying on her jet broom, sees Jimmy and decides to steal his flute in order to be named "Witch of the Year" at the upcoming witches' convention. Jimmy discovers the cave in which the inhabitants of Living Island reside and meets H. R. Pufnstuf, a friendly dragon who is the island's mayor. Disguised as a hippie, Witchiepoo manages to steal Freddie Flute. To recover the flute, Jimmy and Pufnstuf get Googy Gopher to burrow into Witchiepoo's castle and release bags of smoke in the basement so that Pufnstuf can enter as a fireman. The attempt fails, however, and Pufnstuf is captured and locked in a dungeon. Meanwhile, Witchiepoo prepares for the witches' convention by thinking of a way to serve Pufnstuf to her guests for dinner. Jimmy then disguises the inhabitants of Living Island as angels and frightens away the witches to save Pufnstuf and Freddie.
