Synopsis
In the city of Kolkata, young law student Ramesh falls for the heiress Hemnalini and she reciprocates his feelings. But Ramesh is recalled unexpectedly to his father's country home where he is told he must marry the illiterate daughter of an unfortunate widow. Distraught, Ramesh finally agrees to go along with the arranged marriage. While traveling back to Kolkata with his new wife, a terrible storm capsizes their boat. When Ramesh regains consciousness on the riverbank, he finds his bride amongst the debris. He takes her home, but she does not understand why they are not going to Kashi instead. Soon, a regretful Ramesh tries to re-connect with Hemnalini, while his new bride is torn apart by a terrible secret.
