Synopsis
When Texas Ranger John Reid is ambushed by the lowly Butch Cavendish and left for dead in the desert, a renegade Comanche named Tonto rescues him and nurses him back to health. Reid dons a mask and with his new partner vows to bring the murdering outlaw to justice, ultimately learning that Cavendish is just one part of a complicated scheme to seize power and becoming a legendary hero in the process.

Previous "The Lone Ranger" incarnations include two 15-episode Republic serials (USA/1938, USA/1939); and the features "The Lone Ranger" (USA/1956), directed by Stuart Heisler and starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels; "The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold" (USA/1958), directed by Lesley Selander and starring Moore and Silverheels; and "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" (USA/1981), directed by William Fraker and starring Klinton Spilsbury; and, the popular ABC television series "The Lone Ranger" (1949-65), which featured Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels.
Production, slated to commence in October 2011, was halted by Disney due to concerns about the $260 million budget.

Production is back on after Johnny Depp, Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski agreed to lower their fees, and changes were made to the production schedule, bringing the budget down to $215 million from $250 million.
Prior to filmmaker, the budget had been reduced from $250 million to $215 million, but the budget increased during production and is projected to have risen to at least $250 million.
