Synopsis

1980. A pawnbroker is murdered and his body is discovered in a dilapidated house. The prime suspects are his widow Yaeko and her lover Isao, who also worked at the pawn shop. But the pawnbroker's son, ten-year-old Ryouji, claims they were both watching television with him when the crime occurred. The young boy's pensive and mature face gives Detective Superintendent Sasagaki pause. Further investigations reveal the pawnbroker visited a woman named Fumiyo before he died. While she is being questioned by the superintendent, her daughter Yukiho interrupts, insisting that Fumiyo is lying. When Fumiyo commits suicide after a friend dies in a car accident, the case appears to be resolved. But Detective Superintendent Sasagaki cannot stop thinking about the victim's son and the prime suspect's daughter. Years go by, Yukiho, Fumiyo's daughter and Ryouji, the pawnbroker's son, both seems to have overcome the traumatic events of the past and be living normal lives. However, for Sasagaki, the murder still haunts him, and nineteen years later, he decides to reopen the case.
