Synopsis

Attending a performing arts academy in Perestroika era Russia, scrawny 14-year-old Boris Fishkin is something of an outsider. He is enthusiastic about ballet, but is not terribly good at it. He is given VHS tape of the 1985 film "White Nights" starring Mikhail Baryshnikov, banned in the Soviet Union because of Baryshnikov's defection to the United States. Boris watches the film obsessively, studying and copying the dance moves of the master. Partly to impress his classmates, he begins to claim to be Baryshnikov's illegitimate son and as his dancing improves, people start to believe him.
