Synopsis
The end of World War II brought peace to many, but for others, it brought chaos. As the Red Army began to re-establish its authority in Poland, it remained mistrustful of the Polish community. In their view, the Poles collaborated with the Germans or members of the Polish Home Army, whose goal was to establish Poland as an independent state. These Soviet liberators turn out to be a mixed blessing for many Poles. A Polish woman named Rose, whose husband was a German soldier who was killed in the war, is left to tend to the family farm on her own. As a single woman, she has no defense against Russian soldiers who are known to rape and plunder as a form of revenge. However, help arrives in the form of Tadeusz, a former officer in the Polish Home Army who survived the Warsaw uprising and is attempting to disguise his identity.
