Synopsis

Grant Willard, head of a stock-car racing organization, sponsors ambitious driver Rick Bowman in competition against local track hero Hawk Sidney. Rick causes Hawk to crash, wins the race, then leaves with Hawk's ex-girl friend Jolene. Hawk follows them, forces them off the road, terrorizes Jolene, and destroys Rick's car. Entering the Phoenix Internationals, Rick works closely with Willard's star Ed McLeod, while having an affair with Ed's wife, Ellen. Rick's desire for personal glory emerges when the race begins; he wins after forcing McLeod out of the race in a spectacular crash. At the hospital, Ellen informs Rick of her husband's death. Willard offers Rick another opportunity to become a racing star.
