Synopsis

The Three Mesquiteers, Stony Brooke, Rusty Joslin and Rico, ride to the rescue when they witness an Indian attack on a wagon train. After driving off the Indians, the Mesquiteers agree to guide the party to its destination because the wagon master was killed in the attack. The settlers, led by Dr. Bailey, have been lured out West by offers of cheap land, but when they arrive at their destination, they discover that the land sold to them by a group of local politicians, headed by Judge Platt and Sheriff Gorham, is worthless. Nevertheless, by dint of hard labor and courage, the settlers clear the land and are about to earn a living from it when they are levied with exorbitant taxes. These taxes have been engineered by Platt, who has learned that the railroad is interested in buying the land and has decided to drive the settlers off so that he can sell it at a handsome profit. To pay their taxes, the settlers delegate the Mesquiteers to sell their cattle at market. Returning with the proceeds, the Mesquiteers are robbed by Platt's henchmen, but they later recover the money. His tax scheme having failed, Platt turns to violence, and in an ensuing gunfight, Nolan, one of his men, is killed and Stony charged with his murder. As both the judge and sheriff are involved in the conspiracy, things look grim for Stony until Rico and Rusty rally the settlers to free Stony and restore law and order to the territory.
