Synopsis

Marshal Cheyenne and his sidekick Fuzzy go to meet deputy Jackson, only to find that he has been murdered, presumably by the gang he was investigating in the small town of Buffalo Gap. As Jackson is the third deputy to be killed, Cheyenne decides to investigate himself, and he and Fuzzy ride to Buffalo Gap. Meanwhile, gang members Bill Judd, Criler and Joe reach the town saloon, where cardsharp Grayson, another member of the outfit, is beating young Al Walters in a poker game. Al's sister Betty, who begged him not to gamble, enters just as Judd shoots and kills Al, who had accused him and Grayson of cheating. Although Judd claims that he acted in self-defense, Betty insists that it was murder and states that she will summon a marshal for help. Judd threatens her, but Cheyenne's timely arrival and quick action with his whip stop Judd from shooting Betty. Sheriff Peters, who is in league with the gang, refuses to arrest Judd, and so Cheyenne and Fuzzy help the grieving Betty take her brother's body to their ranch. There, Betty introduces Cheyenne and Fuzzy to Uncle Bob, a family friend who has lived with them since he lost his homestead five years before. Betty laments the acts of gang terror that have driven away many of the ranchers and wonders if Grayson is the secret head of the gang. Cheyenne, who has not revealed his identity, then offers to help Betty with the ranch. Acting on orders from the gang's mysterious leader to get rid of Betty and her new friends, Judd and the men then try to set the ranch house on fire. Cheyenne and Fuzzy thwart the outlaws and take them to town, where Cheyenne forces Peters to put them in jail. Peters frees them shortly thereafter, but Cheyenne anticipates Peters' move and follows the men to their hideout. Inside, Cheyenne notices a wooden table marred by distinctive spur marks, which were made by the boss, who has a habit of resting his feet there. The next day, Fuzzy plays poker with Grayson while Cheyenne escapes from an ambush planned for him by the gang. Cheyenne and Fuzzy then take Grayson captive, but he is shot by Judd before he can talk. As he lays dying, Grayson tells Cheyenne that the secret leader, who is insane, brought him in to help run the settlers into debt and steal their land. Grayson dies before he can reveal the boss's name, but Cheyenne has his suspicions, and when he, Fuzzy, Betty and Bob go to the gang's hideout, he orders Bob to put his feet on the table in order to prove that his spurs left the imprints. Betty is outraged by the suggestion that Bob is the gang's leader, but the crazed Bob admits his guilt, saying that he could not stand to see others profit by his discovery of the valley, which he settled long ago. Bob's men surround the cabin and a shootout begins, but Cheyenne tricks the gang into coming into the cabin and captures them all except Judd, whom he shoots in self-defense. Later, Sheriff Peters is made a prisoner in his own jail, along with the other culprits, and Fuzzy has been made the sheriff. Cheyenne and Betty then go to watch the moon rise and leave an alarm clock to prevent the always tired Fuzzy from sleeping on the job.
