Synopsis

A gang of thieves called the "Pinto Rustlers," led by Mexican bandit Nick Furnicky, have been raiding Evans Valley. When "Pop" Evans is killed during a raid, his son, Tom Dawson, becomes a deputy to avenge his father's murder. By printing a "Wanted" poster bearing a picture of himself, Tom convinces Furnicky he is an outlaw and is recruited in the gang. With rustler Bud Walton's help, the gang raids the Walton ranch and takes Bud's brother, Dad Walton, hostage, hoping to crack his safe. Tom then gets hired by Ann Walton as a ranch hand. At Furnicky's orders, Tom meets safecracker Lugo, but Tom ties him up and has his partner Mack pose as Lugo. Tom then warns the Waltons with an anonymous note that the rustlers are planning a raid at sunrise. At dawn, Tom and Mack crack the safe and hide the money, then are chased off the ranch by the Waltons. Still hoping to locate Dad Walton, they return to the gang with the excuse that they were caught before cracking the safe. When Tom reports for work later, Ann dismisses him for being absent during the raid. Meanwhile, Lugo, who has escaped, catches up with the gang and reveals Tom and Mack's duplicity. Furnicky then ties them up, but, to their surprise, Lugo releases them before leaving with Furnicky and his men to crack the safe. Tom then intimidates a young gang member into confessing it was Furnicky who murdered Pop. At the Waltons', Lugo holds up Furnicky and is wounded. Lugo is really the sheriff's deputy Ed, who has been impersonating Lugo, whom the sheriff arrested after his escape. Tom and Mack, with the help of the sheriff and the Waltons, fight the gang from outside the house. When all of Furnicky's men, including Bud, have been shot, Furnicky offers Ed to the sheriff in exchange for Tom. When Tom enters, he tells Furnicky he knows Furnicky killed his father, then beats him up and has him arrested. Tom then turns in his badge, and he and Ann ride off together.

Notes

It is unclear from the viewed print what happens to "Dad Walton" after he is kidnapped, but presumably, he is rescued. Variety incorrectly calls George Chesebro's character "Spud." Modern sources add Charles King, Milburn Morante, Bob Burns, Wally West and Dick Cramer to the cast.
