Synopsis
Set against the backdrop of a London recovering from the fall-out of World War II, we follow a group of lost young Londoners whose lives are inextricably linked through their wartime experiences. Kay roams the streets, haunted by a traumatic personal loss. Meanwhile, Helen and Viv run a marriage bureau, helping people rebuild their shattered lives by finding love. However, their own relationship dilemma is less easy to solve. Helen obsessively clings to her tumultuous relationship with Julia, while Viv finds herself unable to break free from her married lover. The sexual freedom and independence they enjoyed in wartime is curtailed once more as they are returned to the margins of society. As each woman strives toward a more hopeful future, they must first come to terms with their actions in the past.
