Synopsis

Twenty-two-year-old single mother, Valya, works in a local vodka factory while living with her mother in the backwoods Russian town of Zhigulyovsk. For her, the future is not bright as there is nothing to do but drink and all the men are deadbeats. Valya dreams of escaping of banality of her reality by becoming an actress in Moscow. But in thinking about her dream, Valya realizes she would not only be abandoning her son, she would destroy her mother's life as she finally has a chance at love when an old flame re-enters her life.
