Synopsis

A look at writer Thomas Brasch's life and work. Born in London to a Jewish immigrant family, Thomas Brasch grew up in the GDR where his father eventually became the Vice-Minister for Culture in 1965. However, his father's career took a hit when his son was arrested after having posted flyers protesting against the clamp down on Prague Spring. Thomas Brasch proved to have no fear of courting controversy--he often clashed with the GDR authorities over the years. In spite of all this, his stage plays, texts, poems and three feature films never failed to fascinate the public. He had a keen talent of interweaving the past, contemporary events, classical and pop culture, as well as Jewish and German heritage, into his works in a skillful and effortless way. He passed away in 2001.
