Synopsis

A remounting and reinterpretation of Roland Petit's 1991 ballet, "Chaplin Dances" that focuses on the creative process. The performance is divided into two acts. In Act I, "Process," the dance is shown being developed over 60 days. Italian ballet star Luigi Bonino describes how he came to his understanding and interpretations. Ballerina-actress Tamiyo Kusakari refines sequences. Documentary filmmaker Masayuki Suo and Roland Petit spar over deviations from the original. Meanwhile, Chaplin's son, Eugene, observes the important thing is not to replicate his father but to use his persona as a stepping off point for something new. Act II distills the ballet into one act with 13 scenes, including "Gold Rush", Modern Times", City Lights" and "Limelight."
