Synopsis

Descendants of early Polynesian Lapita Navigators, the people of the 7-square-kilometer atoll of Puluwat, have lived a life of self-sufficiency. Few outsiders have visited--the nearest large island is Yap, reachable only after days of sailing. They are currently losing their homes and crops because of rising sea levels and their livelihood is threatened as the islands they live on are flooded day after day. By chance in 2004, sailor Steve Goodall came across them in his travels and discovered they knew nothing of global warming and its affects. Once informed, they asked for his help. Here, we observe a culture at a crossroads and a celebration of a living culture.
