Synopsis
Tracks the maturation of a young boy named Mir from age eight to eighteen in rural Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban, Mir's family is able to leave the Bamiyan caves to return to their home in the distant northern desert. There, his family scratches out a living by hardscrabble farming. Mir helps to support his family by plowing and grazing the goats on leafless mountain slopes. His dreams of becoming of a teacher or even president are fading, but through it all, he maintains his smile and enthusiasm.
