Synopsis

Andrew, an American art student in Paris, meets and falls in love with Vivienne Rolland, an actress, and she agrees to marry him with his mother's consent. Cora Sabbot, Andrew's mother, arrives in Paris with Brenda Kaley, intent upon breaking up the match, and bluntly refuses to receive Vivienne. Guy Pennell, a handsome English revue artist who is in love with Vivienne, also determines to break up the couple and gives Cora some brandy after she faints, causing her to lose her puritanical notions and to begin a scandalous flirtation with him. Vivienne tries unsuccessfully to find out if Guy really loves Cora, and in spite of Andrew's protests, Cora and Guy announce their engagement. Vivienne and Andrew come to a parting of ways, and, learning of Guy's conspiracy with Cora, she sends him away but at length is reconciled to him.
