Overland Stagecoach

Stagecoach driver Fuzzy Jones is angry that the Midland Railroad is building a rail line which may take the place of the stagecoach. Equally upset is Jeff Clark, owner of Pioneer Stagecoach, who tries to sabotage railroad construction, and is fatally shot. As he lays dying, Jeff urges Fuzzy and his partner Kent to stop the fruitless war he has instigated. Kent, however, plans destroy the railroad and murder Jeff's daughter Susan, who is coming to town to inherit her father's share of the stagecoach line. When Fuzzy sees that Kent is continuing the hostilities against the railroad, he sends for his friend, Tom Cameron, the renowned "Lone Rider," to help. When Tom receives Fuzzy's letter, he initially thinks his friend is being an alarmist. Tom's friend and ranch hand, Smoky Moore, meanwhile, is preparing to leave the ranch to be the new Midland Railroad construction foreman, and when a wagon unexpectedly arrives to pick him up, only Tom notices that it belongs to Pioneer. Suspicious, Tom follows the wagon and is on hand when Kent and a masked friend attack the wagon. When Tom sees the driver attempting to shoot Smoky, he comes to Smoky's rescue. Realizing that Fuzzy was not exaggerating, Tom decides to ride into town. When Fuzzy picks up Susan, the headstrong woman insists on driving the stagecoach to Devil Creek, and Kent is angry to see her arrive alive. Kent secretly constructs a special seat inside the stagecoach in which he has concealed his cohort Pete. Smoky gets off on the wrong foot with Kent when he hits him for pretending not to know about the attempt on his life. Not long after, while driving by the railroad construction workers, Fuzzy makes an idle remark about blowing up the dreaded railroad. Pete, who has been hiding in the seat-box, throws a stick of lighted dynamite at the construction site, causing a serious explosion. Fuzzy is blamed for the damage and Tom helps him hide at his friend Pedro's café. However, Smoky threatens Kent with a reprisal if the workers' payroll is stolen, as he is expecting its arrival on the next Pioneer stagecoach, and naïve Susan is offended that Smoky thinks her coach line is corrupt. Later, Tom overhears Kent talking to someone in the stagecoach about where Fuzzy is hidden, but when he rides up to the stagecoach, it appears to be empty. Unknown to Tom, Pete was riding in the seat-box when he took Fuzzy to Pedro's. Tom confronts Kent, but is forced to flee after Kent tells him he knows where Fuzzy is hidden. Kent calls out the sheriff's posse after Fuzzy, but Tom warns Fuzzy first and they hide in the hills. Worried about the railroad agent carrying the payroll, Tom and Fuzzy stop the stagecoach en route, but discover too late that the agent has been shot by Pete from within the coach. When the driver starts the stagecoach suddenly, Pete shoots at them. The coach passes by the railroad workers, who assume that Tom and Fuzzy robbed their payroll, which is what Kent tells the sheriff. In order to continue their investigation, Smoky apologizes to Susan and Kent for his accusations, and keeps them occupied while Tom and Fuzzy check out the stagecoach. When they find Pete hidden inside, Tom fires the gun out of Pete's hand. Kent runs to the barn and after the arrival of the sheriff, Smoky takes everyone by surprise and helps his pals escape. Susan then discovers the hidden seat, and Kent takes her hostage. The next morning, Tom, Smoky and Fuzzy hold up the stagecoach which is carrying Kent. They are followed by the sheriff and his posse, who intend to arrest them, but when Smoky insists on an immediate trial, he proves their innocence by revealing that Kent is keeping Susan hostage inside the secret seat-box. After Kent is arrested, Susan becomes the sole owner of the stagecoach line, and Fuzzy continues to complain about the railroad taking over his business.
