Synopsis

A murdered United Nations official mutters the words "one-eyed soldiers" as he dies, thereby providing his daughter Gava with a clue to the whereabouts of the key to a Swiss bank vault containing $15 million in stolen money. On a train en route to the Eastern European town of Nassaum, Gava is followed by a mysterious fat man, later revealed to be Harold Schmidt, an international criminal. Gava knocks Schmidt unconscious and forces Richard Owen, an American journalist aboard the train, to drive her into town. The two are pursued by gunmen headed by former SS agent Antonio Caporelli, a sadistic dwarf. Caporelli captures and tortures Gava while Schmidt, disguised as an undertaker, rescues Owen in a hearse. Owen rescues Gava with Schmidt's help, and Gava directs Owen to the Nassaum cathedral where a statue with one eye contains the hidden vault key. Caporelli fires a machine gun into a crowd from his perch on top of the cathedral, but Schmidt's assistant, mute as a result of Caporelli's wartime tortures, throws himself on the dwarf, and the two fall to the ground. On the point of arresting Gava and Owens, Colonel Ferrer, the local police chief, allows himself to be corrupted by Schmidt. Locking his charges in adjoining hotel rooms, Ferrer departs with Schmidt and the key to the $15 million.
