Synopsis

Julianne rises from the rank of a Broadway modiste to owner of a fashionable Fifth Avenue salon, guided by a worn deck of cards and her faith in the future of her only son, Harvey, whom she sends to college. "Lucky" Jim Seymour suggests a plan by which she can benefit financially--extending credit to struggling showgirls under the egis of broker Raymond Pryer. Jeanne Burke, who is having an affair with Pryer, meets Harvey in a college town and becomes engaged to him; following graduation, Harvey takes a job in Pryer's office but leaves when he learns of her affair. Julianne, who disapproves of the girl, presses for payment of her account under threat of exposure, but Jeanne counters with the threat of revealing the particulars of Julianne's sideline activities. Ultimately, the mother relents.
