Synopsis

Stephen Long murders his mother, drives to the top of a hill, kills several passing motorists with a rifle, and then commits suicide. Melissa Borden, his teenaged fiancée, seeks psychiatric help from Dr. Krafft-Ebing and relates the events leading up to Stephen's death: Melissa and her mother Joanna were in constant competition for masculine attention. When their rivalry drove away Arthur, the man of the house, the women began to give lavish parties to see who could attract more men. Eventually Melissa turned her attention to Stephen, a mother-dominated neighbor who was raised to believe that sex is sinful. Learning of his fetish for roses, Melissa unsuccessfully attempted to seduce him in his flower garden. The doctor explains that Stephen was driven to despair by his impotence and became filled with a desire to commit evil acts.
