Synopsis
Peter is an 18-year-old high school senior in a middle-class suburb of Toronto. Although his parents want him to attend college after graduation, Peter rebels against all authority; he skips school, gets arrested for reckless driving in a demonstrator car from his father's automobile agency, and is put on probation after spending a night in jail. His only confidante is his girl friend, Julie, who is more mature, even though she shares Peter's desire for more personal freedom. After a bitter argument with his mother, Peter moves into a roominghouse and begins working as an attendant in a parking lot, where his boss teaches him to shortchange the customers. Peter's parents insist that he return home, prepare himself for college, and stop seeing Julie--conditions which he cannot accept. Later, Julie leaves her parents, and when Peter asks his father to loan him the money to go away with her, he is refused. Angrily, Peter steals a car, and they drive off together. Realizing the implications of what he has done, Julie pleads to return and reveals that she is pregnant. Peter stops the car, lets her out, and drives on alone.
