Synopsis
Bill Grant is tired of his job as an aluminum salesman. When he changes a tire for Norma Rickson, he lies about himself, pretending to be wealthy. Norma knows that Bill is a salesman for she has seen him peddling his wares, but she does not reveal this because she is attracted to him. At the racetrack with his friend Hector, Bill meets Norma again. He pretends to be the owner of "The Phantom," a racehorse, but through an error bets on another horse, a fifty-to-one shot, which wins. When Norma is surprised, he claims he was trying to inspire "The Phantom." Norma's father, Colonel Rickson offers to buy the horse from Bill. Luckily, Bill wins the horse in a card game. The next day, when the colonel comes to see the horse run, another horse is substituted through a misunderstanding, and the colonel and Norma assume that Bill is trying to cheat them. Then Norma learns that someone is paying "The Phantom's" jockey to lose the race, so she promises the jockey her winnings if he comes in first. "The Phantom" wins, and as all of Bill's lies have come true, Norma decides that life with him will not be dull.
