Synopsis

Arlin Grove, just out of the Army, hitches a ride with some drunken revelers who rob and beat him. He awakens in the bedroom of Molly Morgan, whose uncle owns a grocery store and filling station. Arlin stays on as a clerk and soon falls in love with Molly. When a hootenanny is held in the town, Arlin performs and becomes a local attraction. As he celebrates with Molly, her uncle bursts into her room and demands that they marry. Arlin's guitar playing attracts Wesley Lang, a conniving talent manager who signs him to a personal contract. Arlin soon realizes his mistake and attempts to break the contract. To get even, Lang tries to break up Arlin's marriage by introducing him to voluptuous Margo Powell and then books him into a plush Chicago nightclub, where he is laughed off the stage. He begins to drink heavily, and Molly enlists the aid of Tex Ritter to arrange for Arlin's comeback at the Grand Ole Opry House. Just before his performance, Arlin learns that Molly is pregnant and seriously ill. Instead of singing his number, he broadcasts his love for Molly and rushes to the hospital, where he finds Molly holding their newborn son.
