Synopsis
When Dave Borden visits his ranch to investigate a series of murders involving tenants who leased his property, he is initially accused of the crimes, but later cleared by the sheriff Ben. Soon after, Dave learns that his neighbor, Jim Wilson, has been murdered as well. Sally, Wilson's daughter, inherits her father's ranch and plans to marry mining engineer Ron Logan. That night, rancher Jim Berry and his foreman, Hal Jackson, offer to purchase Dave's ranch. When Dave declines, Jackson starts a fistfight, but Dave triumphs. Later, a mysterious masked rider shoots at Jackson and Berry on the trail. After Berry loses his rifle in the commotion, the masked man uses it to set a trap for Dave and nearly succeeds in killing him. In a ruse designed to identify the killer, Dave announces to the town that he intends to sell his ranch to the highest bidder. Logan, who secretly has plans to control the water rights for the entire valley, offers to buy the property on behalf of the mining company. When Norris, the only other possible purchaser for the property, is found dead, Dave sells to Logan, whom he suspects is the killer. Meanwhile, Sally has been encouraged by Dave to change her affections from Logan to Jackson. Deciding to remain in the area to trap the murderer, Dave uses a mirror by his window to catch the masked man when he makes another attempt at murder. A chase ensues, but Dave loses the bandit in the hills. Logan then appears at Sally's ranch and, after confessing to the murders, tries to force Sally to deed over her ranch to him, but Dave arrives just in time to capture Logan. With the mystery resolved, Dave leaves town for other adventures and assigns his ranch to Sally and Jackson for their new life together.
